Roy Willis Lifetime Collection - FRI - OCT 25 Auction

Extraordinary curlew by Sammy Salter, a featured carver with the Core Sound Decoy Carvers Guild.

very nice natural curlew by Hunnings, signed by Willie Hunnings, Ocracoke, NC and dated 12-18-1990, which was Roy Willis birthday - may have been given to Roy on his birthday.

Roy carved these Dowitchers circa 2000 - nicely painted. These were only two Roy Willis carved Dowitchers of this style in Roy`s collection.

Made circa 2000 - there were only three of these style "beach robins" carved by Roy in his entire collection. Nicely painted & signed by Roy.

These were the only "root head" shorebirds like these in Roy`s Collection. The cork "root head" made by Roy (on the left in photos) is made in the early Harkers Island style. The Sandpiper "root head" (on the right) made by Eldon Willis & Roy in the 1970`s is made in the early Core Sound style of root heads.

Roy was very fond of his shorebirds made by Donald Fulcher, and was said to be very reluctant to part with one.

Roy did an excellent job reproducing these shorebirds like the old Charlie Fulcher "root heads". We found only four of these in Roy`s entire collection.

The only two Golden Plovers made by Roy in his collection.

Donald Fulcher`s style of carving reflects influence of Eldon & Roy Willis.

Attributed to Gerald Davis by some Carteret County carvers. Gerald was a highly respected carver, and like Roy, was on the original Board of Directors of the Core Sound Decoy Carvers Guild.

Remington UMC KLEANBORE with nailed construction, red & green print , marked "SHUR SHOT SHELLS" in red & Wetproof in green on long side, nice solid wood shipping crate. Also a RARE Remington UMC, in "red ball design", tongue & groove construction, .25 STEVENS Cal., labeled "Hollow Point - Rim Fire" and "BLACK POWDER" on end. Bottom has a crack, but a RARE and solid wood shipping crate.

Peters "Small Arms Ammunition" wood shipping crate labeled "KINGS MILL, OHIO, USA" in black print, ends with red & black print with large letter "P", ends labeled "SMOKELESS - RUSTLESS", nailed construction. Also Remington .22 Long Rifle "Standard Velocity" wood shipping crate, nailed construction, with nice red & green print, with sides labeled "Remington CARTRIDGES With Non-Corrosive KLEANBORE Priming". Crate solid, lettering clear.

Also a RARE Remington UMC RED TOP AIR RIFLE SHOT wood shipping crate, with one side printed "UMC BRIDGEPORT WORKS - BRIDGEPORT, CONN", nailed construction, bottom of crate missing with top in place - top of crate has printing reflecting crate was shipped to "JOB P WYATT & SONS, RALEIGH, NC"
