These oyster tokens were "paid" to the workers (shuckers) of the oyster opening businesses when they turned in a given quantity of opened oysters during the work day. At the end of the work week, the worker would turn in his or her tokens, for which their weekly pay was calculated. These oyster tokens are from the four following Carteret & Pamlico County, NC "oyster houses": (1) token stamped "25 cents" and "G.F.F", which represents 25 cents in wages paid by the Garland Franklin Fulcher Seafood Co.; (1) token stamped "10 cents" and "G.F.F", which represents 10 cents in wages paid by the Garland Franklin Fulcher Seafood Co.; (1) token stamped "5 cents" and "G.F.F" which represents 5 cents in wages paid by the Garland Franklin Fulcher Seafood Co.; (1) token stamped "T" which is from the Valentine Taylor Packing Co. of Sea Level, NC; (3) tokens which read: "1 PINT" and "CHAS S. WALLACE - MOREHEAD CITY, NC"; (3) tokens stamped "1 GALLON - C.S. WALLACE" (for Charles S, Wallace, Morehead City, NC), and (2) tokens which read: "5 LB - WOODLAND & CO., ATLANTIC, NC". Tokens in glass & heavy cardboard display case.
